| In this orthodontic therapy, malalignments are treated almost invisibly with custom-made, thin transparent plastic splints, called aligners. This is often a good alternative to other types of treatment, depending on the severity of tooth and jaw malalignment. 3D computer graphics are used to show the patient’s current dental status and the desired result, and treatment is divided into separate stages. Individual aligners are then made for each stage, each of which lasts approximately two weeks. The pressure exerted during this time continuously moves the teeth in the desired direction. A new set of aligners is worn at each stage of treatment, until the desired results are achieved. For treatment to be successful, the aligners should be worn for at least 22 hours each day. |
