In a physical examination we look at the function of the jaw joints, the chewing muscles and lower jaw movement. Our analysis covers a diagnosis of all of the processes involved in chewing and the necessary therapy. It serves to test movability (limitations to movability), stress capacity, sensitivity, pain and jaw alignment. Sounds caused by movement of the structure (jaws, muscle, ligaments etc.) are also assessed, as many problems such as muscle tension, headaches, noises in the ears or a popping of jaw joints can be related to tooth or jaw malalignment. Unfortunately, public health insurance does not cover this type of physical examination, even if the patient has come to us with acute pain in the jaw joints or chewing muscles.
