Temporomandibular joint | Information from A to Z

The temporomandibular joint is the flexible connection between the lower jaw and the skull. It consists of the rounded end of the lower jaw (condyle), a disc of cartilage (articular disc) and a depression in the temporal bone (mandibular fossa). Malfunctions (clenching, grinding etc.) or displacement of the disc can cause problems and stress the joint structure. Functional analysis can be used to examine and assess the structure of the jaw joint. |
